Supporting Audi's demanding production logistics, the project required a solution capable of handling a wide variety of parts and box specifications while sustaining the throughput automotive manufacturing depends on.

Challenge

Audi's facility faced a distinct combination of pressures tied to the complexity of automotive parts storage:

Wide variety of parts: raw materials and parts require substantial storage capacity
Many box specifications: boxes of different sizes demand better location adaptation
High storage/retrieval efficiency requirements, large-scale storage needs stable and efficient in/outbound capability

Solution

HWArobotics designed and deployed a system built around a 7m warehouse height with 6 aisles and 61,200 storage locations, powered by 48 size-adjustable box shuttle vehicles, 6 goods lifts, and 6 level-changing lifts. The SLS Variable size-adjustable box shuttle robots enable mixed storage of boxes across different specifications, eliminating the need for rigid, single-size storage locations. The 6 level-changing lifts work in coordination with the shuttles to meet the project's inbound/outbound throughput requirements, while integration with the WCS and conveyor systems achieves full-process automation, from inbound and storage through to outbound.
